Langdon Clay, Delta Lifer

Photographer Langdon Clay is about as Yankee as Yankee gets. He was born in New York City and raised in New England. But 27 years ago, a Mississippi Delta girl, Maude Schuyler, convinced him to move with her to Sumner, Miss.

Langdon’s photographs seem to look at the South’s curiosities with a Northerner’s curious eye. But there is neither disdain nor judgment in his pictures. He sees the South as it is, and his images convey the bemused love for this place that grows in the hearts of natives and émigrés alike.
