Through Maudie’s Eyes
While her husband, Langdon Clay, focuses his images on the objects and settings of the South, Maude Schuyler Clay, looks at people and other animate things, like dogs.
The most remarkable quality of Maude Clay’s photographs of people, as evidenced by this series, is her ability to evoke empathy, genuine engagement between subject and viewer. Her photographs seem to look not so much at people as into them.
