When David Hanson approached us with his short film about John Ruskey, the Mississippi Delta maven, we couldn’t resist. “Being a storyteller gets us into some odd, amazing places,” he writes. “That’s half the reason we love it.” Well Hanson’s interest in Ruskey’s pursuits and lifestyle certainly landed him in the middle of not only an incredible place, but also an incredible story.
Funded by Ruskey’s non-profit the Lower Mississippi Foundation, the film, with its awe-inspiring portraits of the Mississippi River, draws us out of our fast-paced worlds and into the meditative slowness of nature we often forget to appreciate.
