You Don’t Change the Island. The Island Changes You.
As we continue our weeklong exploration of Cumberland Island, we asked 10 people who have volunteered to help with the island’s preservation to share short essays on their experiences. These people come from different backgrounds and fields of work, but their essays share a common theme: The island stretches your understanding of life, as one volunteer put it. And to show you why the island deserves the careful treatment it gets, we asked photographer Phuc Dao, also a volunteer, to share a collection of his photographs from Cumberland that you haven’t had a chance to see just yet.
