The “Sacred Rivers” Project Comes to New Orleans
This film is just one part of a larger project from photographer and journalist Christine Rucker called “Sacred Rivers.”
The project, Rucker says, “explores the relationship between religious traditions from around the world and American rivers.” The project has taken her to New York’s Niagara River, where Hindus celebrate Shravan, the holiest month of their year, to Jewish families casting away their sins at the Hudson River, to fishing-hole baptisms and river blessings in North Carolina. The project is ongoing — many rivers still to cross.
